Saturday, April 26, 2008 Meteor Crater, Petrified Forest, Painted Desert, Gallup NM
We leave the camp round about 11:00 AM and drive up to Meteor Crater. This is where the astronauts trained for the Moon landing. It is hard to judge the size until you look at the Astronaut statue down in the center of the crater. This crater is huge! We take some pictures and some video and go through the museum and watch the movie.

We leave Meteor Crater and head for the Petrified Forest, We stop a place where you can buy petrified wood. You are not allowed to pick any up in the Petrified Forest.

We drive through the forest and make some stops to walk around and take pictures and video. There are large and small petrified trees and the ground is covered with what look like wood chips, except they are petrified as well. Cool!

When we get to the end of the Petrified Forest the road continues through the Painted Desert. The colors are from … We take more pictures and video.

The road leads back out to Route 40 and we head east toward Gallup, NM. We stop for the night at the KOA in Gallup.
