Monday, October 06, 2008 I perform a bypass operation by the side of the road

We start calling to find someone who can fix the heater early in the morning. I had called the folks at Magnolia RV Park and they said we would probably have more options here in Myrtle Beach then up where they are. We only found one place here at the beach that could work on an RV and they said it would probably take a week to get parts. Not good!

If we are going to have to sit around somewhere for a week, we will sit around at the Magnolia RV Park since we start paying them today.

I find a Ford dealer who works on trucks and RVs about an hour up I 26 past Magnolia.
I don’t think we will have time to get there today, so we will go to the Magnolia RV Park and make arrangements to get the repair done later in the week.

After all the time on the phone, we finally get under way about 11:30 AM. I top up the coolant and we check it about every hour. When we stop near Greshan, SC to check the coolant, the leak has increased. We decide to stop at the next hardware store we find and get the parts to perform a bypass operation on the heater.

In Turbeville we find this little old timey hardware store and we park in the lot next door. I buy some plumbing parts and cut the hoses to the heater and make a bypass. The leak is stopped. This will buy us some time to get the rig to the repair shop.

We arrive at Magnolia RV Park about 6:30 PM. We meet Gary and Marcia, the owners, and do our paper work. We get to the site and setup our camp. We are looking forward to getting settled in and staying put for a while. It looks like this will be a good place to spend some time
