Thursday, March 19, 2009 To the Shop The Handle and Living in a Sign Shop

We got up and on the road to the graphics shop at about 8:30 AM. They had the trailer out of the shop where ready for us. We pulled in and they started the cleaning they do before putting on the vinyl. I had to take off the handle on the engine compartment so they can put the stripe on. Of course, one of the bolts snapped off. We took it with us on our way to the upholstery shop.

We found an upholstery shop in Laurens yesterday. We needed someone to sew the fabric to the backing for the wall covering in the dinette. We don’t have a sewing machine on board.

On the way back from the upholstery shop we found an exact replacement for the engine compartment handle, I mean exact! We found it in the Airstream parts aisle in the Ace hardware store. Strangely, the Airstream aisle also had many drawer and door handles for kitchen cabinets. We had our choice of any handle you can imagine. There where choices from engraved porcelain to filigreed gold. We stayed true to the restoration and bought the exact replacement.

We now know where Airstream got their engine compartment hardware, Ace Hardware.

We are hanging out at the Graphics Shop and staying out of the way while they work.

They got a lot done today. Donald thinks they will finish the job tomorrow.

Tonight we re camping in a graphics shop.
