Monday, March 23, 2009 Four Corner Weight and Dinette Make Over Completed
We got a call from the upholsterer this morning and the wall treatment is ready. We are taking the rig to pick up the work and get weighed on the way.
We went to the weigh station at the truck stop to do a four corner weigh. The four corner weigh lets you know how much weight is on each of the wheels. The regular type of weighing is by axle. We want to make sure we are balanced side to side and make sure we don’t have one of the wheels overloaded.
To do this kind of weighing you have to get on the scales twice, once with just the passenger side wheels and once with the driver side wheels. We got to the truck stop just at lunch time and it was incredibly busy. It is a small facility with a lot of big trucks.
It took almost three hours to get the weighing done. The first time through they messed up the weight, and then we had to set in line to go through again. Then it got so busy we just parked and ate some lunch. After two more passes we finally got our four corner weight and our two axle weight.
I put the weights into my RVer’s Notebook software and it tells me the front axle has 200 Lbs available weight capacity and the rear axle has 480 Lbs available weight capacity. To balance the weight side to side, we need to shift 260 Lbs from the front driver side to the passenger side and 80 Lbs from the rear driver side to the passenger side.

The upholstery project was a lot easer. There was a old cotton mill parking lot across the street from Paul the upholsterer’s house, so parking the rig was easy and he did a nice job on the wall treatment and the chair backs. We took his work back to our camp and Debra installed it and the new look for the dinette is great!
